Paris Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 highlights

With every Paris Fashion week, comes the prospect for designers across the world to flaunt their latest breath-taking designs. From January 23-26, leading design houses like Chanel and Giorgio Armani revealed their Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2012 collections as part of Paris Fashion Week. From sparkly dresses to inspired fascinators, designers gave attendees a chance to see the styles spring has in store.

Lebanese designer Ellie Saab arose victorious after unveiling a range of exquisite ball gowns as part of his spring/summer 2012 haute couture collection in Paris. The glorious designer highlighted a collection of affluent designs using basic colours like creamy yellow, soft rose pink, mint green and peach throughout the range. Sonam Kapoor also attended this elite show and lived up to her status of fashion icon. She looked perfect in her powder pink net sari and an Ellie Saab cardigan. Valentino’s haute couture spring 2012 collection included gentle lace attire with intricately hand-embellished designs in sheer fabrics and lace gloves. Yves Saint Laurent displayed a gorgeous jewel-toned collection highlighting blue, purple, and forest green hues with a sprinkling of mint green to lighten up the mood. Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 2012 collection for Chanel was a dreamy, under-the-sea setting. With feathers, peplum, sea foam green and short hemlines, he displayed his collection with metallic ankle booties or gladiator sandals.

Flowy silhouettes and a soft palette dresses were a part of Chloe’s collection. However, there was a hint of menswear with trousers, and boxy shirts. Givenchy also included oceanic influences in a modern, unexpected way showing eel skin, sequins, shark tooth necklaces, and clothing cut to look as if they had grown a fin. Stella McCartney produced a sporty collection highlighting chic mesh-detailed dresses, louche suiting, and strong prints. The key looks were minimal silhouettes via easy slip dresses, structured oversized jackets, and louche trousers and shorts. Jean Paul Gautlier infused his sophisticated style and taste with a pop diva twist in his tribute to Amy Winehouse collection. Overall, the Paris Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 celebrated fashion with these indigenous designers, and portrayed the fresh spring looks for the season.
