Would you dare to be bald and beautiful?

For years, beautiful tresses are regarded as an ornament. While most of us spend time to keep our hair long, shiny, soft and beautiful, there are few of us who dare to chop till the root. When a woman decides to get rid of her curls and go bald, it shakes the society’s notions about woman and beauty. It is still considered aesthetically unacceptable, as it can make heads turn and expressions demur. People think it can be an end of a woman’s dating life, or as the creation of a body image issue. There are a few who would willingly chop off their gorgeous locks to make a statement or just to get rid of the load off their head. Well, if a woman wants to sport the bald look, she should have the liberty to be bald without being victimized. A woman’s worth should not be arbitrated by the length of her hair.

This fashion statement started off with Sinead O’Connor in 1991, which was followed by various Hollywood celebs like Britney Spears and Demi Moore. It hit India, as a fashion statement when Diandra Sores went bald for a Fashion week. Various Bollywood celebrities also sported the bald look in movies. Shabana Azmi made a bald appearance in her Oscar nominated movie, Water. She believes that an actor needs to let go of her inhibitions and do what the role demands. Lisa Ray also went bald for the movie Bald, where she played a young widow. Even though she sported the bald and no makeup look, she looked gorgeous as usual. Antara Mali shaved her head for Amol palekar’s film And Once Again, where she played a role of a monk in Sikkim. While for some people it is necessary for a role, there are women who are sporting this look as a fashion statement. So, would you dare to bare this look, and go bald if the fashion demands?
